Music is Pavanne for a Dead Princess
Frank Robert Jr, the father of Mabel Robert Hansen, wrote out a list of his ancestors which went back to the marriage of Robert Fache to Catherine Cadieu in 1696 in Montreal. His list has been confirmed in standard genealogical sources from Quebec. A few weeks ago, while pursuing one of the lines of ascent which branch off from Frank Robert's list, I found that Catherine de Baillon was an ancestor. Catherine was a minor noblewoman who came to France as a Fille du Roi . She was the mother of a large family and has many descendents in Quebec. Because she was a noblewoman it has been possible for genealogists to trace her ancestry back many generations. In particular, the Catherine Baillon Royal Connection Research Association, a consortium of respected French-Canadian genealogists, has traced her ancestry back to Charlemagne. What is unusual about this is not that we are descended from Charlemagne, statistically he is the ancestor of most western Europeans, but that we can list all of the generations that separate us.
